WOMAN CHARGED IN EXTREME CASE OF CHILD NEGLECT 9/11/2018 2:04:28 PM
The most extreme case of child neglect that most of the St. Thomas Police officers have ever come across.
A 21 year old St. Thomas woman has been charged after police located a child living in disgraceful living conditions. St. Thomas Police were attending an Inkerman Street residence for an unrelated reason when they found the 2 year old child shut inside a bedroom.
Media Relations Officer Tanya Calvert says that officers quickly realized that there were obvious signs of child neglect.
Calvert says that this is the worst case of child neglect that most of the senior officers have seen in their careers. The child was taken to hospital and treated for a non life threatening condition and released into the custody of Family and Children's Services.
The mother was charged with failing to provide the necessaries of life. She will answer the charge at a future court date.
