The Psychiatric Survivors Network of Elgin (PSNE) is closed temporarily after volunteer staff members quit on the weekend. This left PSNE short staffed and unable to keep their drop in centre open 24 hours a day.
The owner of the building replaced the locks as he was instructed to do by the City while necessary upgrades were made on the weekend.
These upgrades relate to the unsafe building order that the City issued late July (July 27) which forced them to close their upstairs residential units (703 Talbot Street).
During the renovations all belongings that were left in the residential units were put into a dumpster.
Executive Director of PSNE Lori Pelley says that staff had worked to try and prevent that from happening.
Pelley says that they decided to close temporarily and see if they can continue to be open 24 hours a day.
PSNE is planning on reopening Friday morning (Aug 10) at 9 a.m.
