Joe Thornton's "Big Assist" raised close to $150,000 for the local health care and education system in St. Thomas and Elgin County. Over 100 community members attended and donated to the event which saw local food, drinks and entertainment and Thornton attend.
The $150,000 will go towards a three year $500,000 fundraising commitment. The funds are being split evenly between the St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital Foundation and the STEAM Centre.
The Big Assist was also about inspiring people to show that they can aspire and achieve big dreams while being from St. Thomas, just like Thornton did.
The event was held the same weekend that saw the Timken Centre officially renamed to the Joe Thornton Community Centre. Picture courtsey of Spitzky Media.
