The St. Thomas Stars have advanced to the second round of the GOJHL Western Conference playoffs. The Stars were 5-1 winners in game 5 of their opening round series on Thursday night (March 8) in Sarnia.    
Special teams proved to be a big factor in the opening round for the Stars. The Stars scored 8 times on the power play which is currently 5th best in the entire league in the playoffs at 29.63%. Goaltending also came up big in round one, with the Stars goalies combining for a 0.918% save percentage.
This is the first time that the Stars have advanced to the second round since the 2010/2011 season which saw them win the Western Conference title.
The Stars are still waiting to see who they will face in the second round as the Chatham and LaSalle series is going to a game 7 on Sunday night (March 11) in LaSalle.
If LaSalle wins the Stars will play the first place London Nationals. If Chatham wins then the Stars will play the second seeded Leamington Flyers.    
The second round is expected to start in the latter half of next week.
