A woman who made a huge impact on the local soccer community has passed away.

Carmen Luft passed away Thursday after a courageous and lengthy battle at the St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital. Luft was 75.

Born in Tarxien, Malta, Luft made was a pioneer for women's soccer in St. Thomas.

Carmen started Women's Soccer in St. Thomas in 1975. She organized St. Thomas Soccer Fest for over 35 years.

She worked as a Nursery School Teacher and also for the Association of Community Living.

Resting at Williams Funeral Home, 45 Elgin St., St. Thomas for visitation on Monday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. The service to celebrate Carmen's life will be held at the Masonic Centre of St. Thomas, Fruit Ridge Line, St. Thomas on Tuesday afternoon at 1:00 p.m. Interment to follow in Holy Angels' Cemetery. Remembrances may be made to Canadian Diabetes Association, to St. Thomas Futsal League, St. Thomas Minor Soccer or charity of choice. The family wishes everyone to wear bright coloured attire.
