CITY RECEIVES ADDITIONAL HOMELESSNESS PREVENTION FUNDING
2/8/2018 10:59:02 AM

The City's Community Homelessness Prevention Initiative (CHPI) has received nearly $79,000 ($78,916) in additional Provincial funding this year. The funding increase brings their total allocation to $1,380,072 for this year. The new funds will allow CHPI to fund 8 transitional and 3 emergency beds for the Psychiatric Survivors Network Of Elgin's (PSNE) new location in April.

They will also be contributing towards the cost of a live in peer support worker at PSNE.

Housing Services Administrator Ralph West says one of the reasons PSNE was chosen is because they are shifting their work to help people find longer term housing, which is critical to people's success

West says that while funding for housing plays a role in people's success, it's only part of the solution.

He says that health funding from the Local Health Integration Partnership is also crucial to the vulnerable people in the community's ability to turn their life around.
