FORMER AYLMER CHIEF OF POLICE PASSES AWAY

A former Aylmer Chief of Police has passed away. Michael Kavanagh passed away peacefully at his residence on Saturday (January 6) at the age of 82. Kavanagh, originally from Montreal began his 40 year policing career as a motorcycle patrol officer. He also served on the Petrolia Police force and became the Chief of Police in Aylmer in 1979. Kavanagh was also the Deputy -Chief of the St. Thomas Police Service.
In addition to his professional career Kavanagh was also a past president of the Aylmer Shrine Club and was awarded the Aylmer citizen of the year in 2009. Kavanagh's wife Frances passed away in 1999. He has three children and has 7 grand children and 2 great grand children.
Visitations will take place at the H.A. Kebbell Funeral Home in Aylmer on Monday (January 8) from 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. and Tuesday from 2:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. A service will be held at the Masonic Lodge at 6:45 p.m. on Tuesday (January 9).
The funeral will take place at St. Paul's United Church on Wednesday (January 10) at 11:00 a.m. Donations will be accepted to the Shriner's Hospital and the Aylmer and Area Community Foundation.
