April 22 marked the third annual "SpellBound" adult spelling bee at the St. Anne's Centre.
Twenty teams competed in the spelling bee which raises fund for "Kettle Creek Environmental Trust". This year a team from the "Canadian Federation of University Women's Club" - The Fascinators - won the "Smarty Pants" award along with a $300 cash prize.
In total, $9,000 was raised during this year's event.
Don Ferguson, President of KCET said that the "SpellBound" contest was started as an effort to raise money for creation of wetlands but the trust now raises money for a variety of outdoor education related work.
This year, the KCET informed contest attendees of their new "ReWild the Family" initiative which looks to give seven families the ability to camp at Dalewood Conservation Area for this summer. The initiative will provide the selected families with a free campsite, camping gear and mentors giving them the ability to recreate the experience on their own.
